Choke manifold is an essential component used in well control operations to manage well kicks and maintain pressure during oil and gas drilling. When the blowout preventer is closed, the choke valve can be adjusted to regulate casing pressure, ensuring that bottom hole pressure remains slightly higher than formation pressure, preventing further influx of formation fluids into the well. Additionally, the choke manifold allows for a controlled shut-in when the well is closed, and it can also be used to release pressure safely, protecting the well structure from overpressure.
