This year marks the 24th consecutive year that artists from studios around the world have used Autodesk tools like 3ds Max, Arnold, Flame, Maya, and Shotgun to bring some of the most unforgettable movies and TV shows of 2018 to life. These tools played a key role in creating the visuals seen in this year’s Best Visual Effects Oscar nominees.

Oscar-Nominated Films Rely on Autodesk Technology
Autodesk software was at the heart of all five films nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards: “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Christopher Robin,” “First Man,” “Ready Player One,” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

Across four continents, thousands of VFX artists worked tirelessly to create breathtaking visuals that brought each film’s story to life. Autodesk tools were essential in everything from previsualization and virtual cinematography to post-production and beyond.

Here are some interesting facts about this year’s Oscar-nominated films:

  • “Avengers: Infinity War” features 2,680 VFX shots.
  • “Christopher Robin” includes nearly 1,400 VFX shots.
  • “First Man” has 615 VFX shots.
  • “Ready Player One” includes over 900 VFX shots.
  • For “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” more than 1,200 artists and technicians from around the world contributed to the creation of vehicles, character performances, and environments. The VFX team digitally scanned over 500 characters, props, and sets, including the train from the heist sequence. In total, 90 minutes of the film consist of VFX work.

Due to the good mechanical strength, it effectively prevents its own damage and tear in contact with the filler (quartz sand or porcelain ball, etc.) and catalyst ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the reactor in a long period. Therefore, it has gradually replaced the traditional stainless steel woven mesh and perforated plate tray, and has been widely used in petrochemical field.
