China's first large-scale ethylene technology acceptance

From September 23 to 24, the China National Petroleum Organization’s Large-scale Ethylene Plant Industrialization Complete Technology Development Assessment Conference was held in Beijing. After the completion of the 1.2 million tonne/year ethylene modification and expansion project of Daqing Petrochemical Company, the comprehensive energy consumption, diene yield, and thermal efficiency of the cracking furnace have reached the international advanced level, which means that China has completely mastered the core of the ethylene plant. The technology broke the monopoly of the core technology of ethylene equipment in foreign countries and a number of technologies filled the domestic gap.

It is understood that after the successful application of Daqing Petrochemical's complete set of technology, Daqing Petrochemical's ethylene production capacity will reach 1.2 million tons/year, which will increase the annual operating income of Daqing Petrochemical by more than 10 billion yuan, and stimulate the downstream industry by more than 5 billion yuan. The old industrial base in Northeast China made active contributions.

The complete set of large-scale ethylene plant industrialization technology is also the “863” key scientific and technological support project under the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” in China. It is jointly tackled by China Ryukyu Engineering Company, Daqing Petrochemical Company, Zhejiang University and East China University of Science and Technology. In 2008, this major science and technology project was initiated and led by the China Petroleum Technology Management Department. Ryukyu Engineering Company, Daqing Petrochemical Company, Petrochemical Research Institute, and Tsinghua University jointly tackled the problem. Over the past five years, a large-scale ethylene plant technology package technology has been developed. The breakthrough in the calculation and engineering design of large-scale ethylene cracking furnaces in China and the industrial application of ancillary series of catalysts have been realized. The first cracking product prediction software in China has been developed, and the largest single ethylene cracking furnace in China has been built. According to Zhang Laiyong, deputy general manager of China Ryukyu Engineering Co., Ltd., the project applied for 61 patents, identified 9 technical secrets, completed 1 software copyright, and 1 corporate standard.

Daqing Petrochemical's 1.2 million-ton/year ethylene modification and expansion project was successfully launched in October 2012. In 2013, it successfully passed the 72-hour full-load performance evaluation. Up to now, this set of equipment has been operating smoothly for nearly two years. The technical indicators such as diene yield, comprehensive energy consumption, and cracking furnace thermal efficiency have all reached the international advanced level.

With the completion of the project, CNPC has become the first domestic company to realize the independent development and application of ethylene complete sets of technology, breaking the monopoly of foreign patents in the ethylene field, and filling a domestic gap with a number of core technologies, making China the No. 1 in the world. The four countries that have mastered ethylene technology sets provide technical support for CNPC to invest in or rebuild large-scale ethylene plants in the future, and it also provides a wealth of invaluable and valuable lessons for the development and application of similar large-scale petrochemical plants in the future.

According to Zhu Lianxun, deputy chief engineer of Daqing Petrochemical Company, after the ethylene plant of Daqing Petrochemical Company was put into production, the complete set of technology was operating stably and all indexes were better than the design specifications. The emission indexes of the cracking furnace flue gas, device noise and toxic emissions all met the requirements of environmental protection.

According to He Shengbao, deputy general manager of the China Petroleum Technology Management Department, they will continue to conduct large-scale research on ethylene technology in order to diversify and reduce the cost of ethylene cracking raw materials, and realize and maintain PetroChina's advantages in this technology field, and increase petrochemicals. The overall economic efficiency and competitiveness of the device.
