The current disinfectant used in swimming pools is isocyanurate chloride which is a chlorinated derivative of isocyanuric acid.
The most prominent characteristic of isocyanurate chloride disinfectants is that the process of disinfection can produce hypochlorous acid stabilizer - cyanuric acid.
Cyanuric acid is hydrolyzed by chlorine binding to release hypochlorous acid, resulting in a long-lasting disinfectant effect.
The concentration of cyanuric acid plays a key role in the effectiveness of disinfectants.
However, because cyanuric acid is not easy to decompose and remove, it is easy to gather in water. When its concentration increases to a certain extent, it will combine with the residual chlorine in water and reduce the residual chlorine concentration, which will seriously inhibit the disinfection effect of hypochlorous acid.
When the concentration of cyanuric acid in water is too low, it cannot effectively stabilize chlorine, hypochlorous acid will quickly decompose and lose its disinfectant effect under light.
