Lake County MABAS Division 4 has implemented a comprehensive renumbering of all fire stations and apparatus across the entire division. This updated station numbering system was shared by Bill Friedrich, and it reflects a more organized and standardized approach to identifying locations throughout the county.
The county is composed of 26 fire departments and/or fire districts, which are now divided into four quadrants. Each quadrant is represented by the first digit in the new numbering system. The second digit indicates the specific department within that quadrant, while the third digit identifies the individual station within the department.
Here’s a breakdown of the changes:
- **Abbott’s** fire station is now Station 111
- **Beach Park** is now Station 121
- **Gurnee** Stations 1 & 2 have been renumbered to 131 & 132
- **Newport** Stations 1 & 2 are now 141 & 142
- **North Chicago** Stations 1 & 2 are now 151 & 152
- **Waukegan** Stations 1–5 are now 161–165
- **Winthrop Harbor** is now Station 171
- **Zion** Stations 1 & 2 are now 181 & 182
- **Great Lakes Naval Training Center** Stations 1–3 are now 191–193
- **Antioch** Stations 1–3 are now 211–213
- **Fox Lake** Stations 1–3 are now 221–223
- **Lake Villa** Stations 1–3 are now 241–243

- **Grayslake** Stations 1 & 2 are now 271 & 272
- **Lake Zurich** Stations 1–4 are now 321–324

Notably, **Buffalo Grove**, **Long Grove**, and **Lincolnshire-Riverwoods** Fire Departments/Districts had already updated their station numbers in coordination with local dispatch centers (Northwest Central Dispatch for Buffalo Grove, and RED Center for Long Grove and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods). As a result, they have opted out of the new Lake County-wide numbering system.
