Caring, Collaboration, Agility, Integrity, and Safety are the core values that define who we are at Rümi. As a company dedicated to bringing happiness to the places people live and work, we’re passionate about spreading joy and making a positive impact in our communities. In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we’re excited to highlight some incredible stories from our Rümineers—employees who embody our values and make a real difference in the community. **Making the Connection** If you’ve ever attended one of our Rümi events, you might have met Thomas and Garrett—two enthusiastic members of our Customer Care Happiness Centre. Together, they’ve volunteered over 40 hours, contributing to more than 400 volunteer hours in 2022 alone (and counting)! We recently sat down with them to hear more about their experiences as volunteers and why giving back is so important to them. **What do you enjoy most about volunteering?** Garrett: “For me, it’s all about connecting with people. I love being able to meet customers in person and show them the face behind the phone.” Thomas: “I really enjoy meeting people directly and learning what they want. It’s amazing to hear their thoughts and feedback first-hand.” **Why do you think volunteering and connection go hand in hand?** Garrett: “I was born and raised in Alberta, and I love hearing stories from event attendees about how they’ve heard of ATCO or how much they love Blue Flame Kitchen cookbooks. Every Albertan has a story about us!” Thomas: “Since I’m not originally from Alberta, I’ve come to see how deeply connected the province is. Everyone knows someone who knows ATCO. Being part of the ATCO family helps us build those connections with the community.” **What’s your favorite part of volunteering?** Thomas: “It’s just fun! Having conversations with people and being in the center of everything. We’re never stuck in a booth—we're always out there engaging.” Garrett: “Plus, it’s not just about the activations and prizes. We also volunteer with organizations like WINS, and doing it as a team makes it even more enjoyable.” **What’s your most memorable moment as a volunteer?** As they both smile, Garrett shares a funny memory from an event they worked on together. Thomas: “I remember when we were at a soccer event with Cavalry FC at Spruce Meadows, and two people swapped their sunglasses!” Garrett: “Yes! There were these green Rümi sunglasses, and one guy wanted them for his birthday. The person we gave the last pair to overheard him and ended up trading his branded sunglasses for a pair of Rümi ones right in front of us!” **What’s next for Rümi in the community?** Since launching ügive, our community initiative, we've focused on supporting local charities that align with our mission. From home builds with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta as part of their Refurbishment Program, to clean-up projects with HomeSpace and donation drives like Handbags with Heart with WINS, our team of Rümineers has stepped up to help us give back to the communities we care about. **2022 Community Investment Achievements:** - Exclusive sponsorship of the Home Refurbishment Program with Habitat for Humanity, including $20,000 and 6 months of free energy from ATCOenergy. - Donated over 400 hours of community service. - Built homes with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. - Sorted donations with WINS (Women in Need Society). - Revitalized spaces with the HomeSpace Society. - Launched a matching program where we donate to charities on behalf of Rümineers who volunteer outside of ügive initiatives. Whew!... It’s safe to say that ügive had a great first year, but we’re definitely not slowing down. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on upcoming events and learn more about what we’re doing in communities near you. Let’s keep making a difference—together.
