Screw Elements and Segmented Barrel 1. Do not start the machine when the screw has not reached the preset temperature. 2. Prevent metal fragments and debris from falling into the hopper. If processing recycled materials, a magnetic hopper must be added to prevent iron filings from entering the hopper. 3. When using anti-salvation, make sure that the plastic in the barrel is completely melted, so as not to damage the transmission system parts when the screw retreats. Severe storms swept through the city and its suburbs late Saturday afternoon, keeping numerous fire departments occupied. Around 5:00 PM, Park Ridge and North Maine units were responding to a storm-related call when they received a report of smoke coming from a house adjacent to another with a gas leak. North Maine Engine 1 was the first on the scene at 110 N. Home Avenue, where they observed smoke coming from two sides of a large, modern two-story home. Shortly after their arrival, the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 due to the active fire.
Several fire departments responded to the incident, including Park Ridge’s engine, tower, two ambulances, and a battalion chief, along with Niles Ambulance 3 and North Maine Engine 1 and Battalion 1. The Code 4 brought in additional resources such as Niles Truck 2, Des Plaines Engine 62, Glenview Engine 7, Lincolnwood Ambulance 15, Rosemont Tower 158, and Morton Grove Squad 4.
Firefighters entered the home and found clear conditions on the second floor until they opened the scuttle to the attic, where they encountered intense heat, heavy smoke, and active flames. The attic had a finished plywood floor, which complicated access from certain second-floor rooms. Two hose lines were deployed inside, and multiple vent holes were cut in the roof. Due to the high humidity and extensive interior work, the alarm was upgraded to a Box Alarm, bringing in more crews from River Grove, Norwood Park, Wheeling, Mt. Prospect, Skokie, Buffalo Grove, and Des Plaines.
The fire was finally extinguished around 6:30 PM. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, captured several images of the incident, showing firefighters at work on the roof, cutting vents, and managing the blaze. Additional photos featured units like North Maine Engine 1, Park Ridge Engine 35, Norwood Park’s new Engine 101, Mount Prospect Tower 13, Glenview Engine 7, and Niles Truck 2, all working together to contain the fire.
