Shanghai Electric pushes new gas turbine to alleviate power shortage

On August 18, a ceremonial dispatch event for the newly developed F-class heavy-duty gas turbine by Shanghai Electric (Group) Corporation took place in Shanghai. The event was attended by Vice Mayor of Shanghai, Hu Yanzhao, who officially cut the ribbon to mark the occasion. This marks a significant milestone for Shanghai Electric, as the F-class gas turbine was the result of a collaborative effort with Siemens, beginning in the second half of 2004. The project was completed in just 10 months, showcasing the efficiency and technical capabilities of both companies. The turbine will be installed at the Shanghai Dongkou Gas Turbine Power Plant, which is part of the infrastructure supporting the West-East Gas Pipeline Project during China’s Tenth Five-Year Plan period. Two units of the same class are planned to be installed at the site, significantly helping to meet the growing electricity demand in both industrial and residential sectors in Shanghai. Heavy-duty gas turbines, especially when used in combined cycle power generation, represent a cutting-edge technology that is still in its early stages in China. These systems offer numerous advantages, including high energy efficiency, lower capital investment, shorter construction timelines, compact footprint, water conservation, effective load-shaving performance, and excellent environmental benefits. Shanghai Electric is one of the largest enterprise groups in China specializing in the design, manufacturing, and sales of power generation equipment and large-scale mechanical systems. The company has 6 listed subsidiaries and operates through 132 joint ventures. Its business spans various sectors, including power plant equipment, complete sets of transmission and distribution systems, industrial automation solutions, and household appliances. As a key player in China's energy sector, Shanghai Electric continues to drive innovation and contribute to the nation’s sustainable development.
