Annual output of 300,000 Foton Ao Ling light trucks to be "World Light Truck Factory"

In recent years, China's largest self-owned brand light truck production base, Foton Aoling, has achieved a milestone by producing 300,000 light trucks annually in Zhucheng, Shandong. This facility is not only the largest in China but also stands as the world's biggest light truck production base. The new production line is fully aligned with those of globally renowned truck manufacturers, ensuring that Aoling’s technical equipment and product quality match domestic industry standards and reach international synchronization levels. Industry analysts note that Aoling light trucks have already surpassed some Japanese models in certain aspects. With the integration of Foton Cummins engines, these vehicles are set to be exported to developed markets such as Japan, South Korea, and Europe. As a result, the Aoling light truck production base is on its way to becoming a true "world light truck factory." The "Shao Guandong" prize essay contest highlights the growing opportunities in the region, with more than 8,000 jobs available. It's a time for people to come together, enjoy old games, and explore both familiar and unfamiliar parts of Qingdao. In February 2008, the completion ceremony of the 300,000-unit production base and the 1.5 million-unit off-line event took place at the Foton Motor Zhucheng plant. Leaders from various provincial and municipal departments attended the event. As a red Aoling light truck rolled down the production line, it marked a major achievement—Foton Motor’s Zhucheng plant had reached a total of 1.5 million units produced and sold. Once the 300,000-unit production base was completed, the plant became the largest self-owned brand light truck manufacturing hub in China. At the ceremony, many leaders and experts praised the Aoling light trucks, with some customers even making appointments to discuss their purchases. The Foton Motor Zhucheng plant is one of the company’s most important manufacturing bases, featuring advanced technology, leading welding and assembly lines, electrophoretic coating systems, and state-of-the-art vehicle detection lines. The facility spans 870,000 square meters and employs over 7,000 people. Foton Motor invests heavily in R&D, with an average of over 3.5% of revenue allocated to innovation. One notable project, the Aoling light truck, received a 370 million yuan investment. Under the leadership of Chief Designer Yan Xuebin, the company adopted Toyota’s TPS production model and integrated Isuzu technology, allowing Aoling to break through high-end light truck barriers. Collaborating with Mercedes-Benz in Germany, Aoling integrated European technical features into its MRT series, using turbocharged and intercooled diesel engines that significantly improved performance and fuel efficiency. With the completion of the 300,000-unit production base, Aoling now boasts the best light truck production line in China, bringing its technology level in sync with European standards. This will enhance production capacity, reduce costs, improve quality, and strengthen the brand’s competitiveness in the market. Before Foton Motor, no Chinese automaker had ever dominated the high-, medium-, and low-end light truck markets simultaneously. While Foton Motor held the title of “light truck king,” its success was mainly based on economical models. However, in the high-end segment, it lacked strong presence. Industry sources described it as the “king of economical light trucks.” This changed when Foton Aoling entered the market. Prior to its listing, the high-end light truck sector was dominated by Jiangling and Qingling. In 2002, Austrian Bell (Aoling) had a very small market share. But by 2008, its sales exceeded 10,000 units, capturing nearly 20% of the market. Through targeted technological upgrades, Aoling used European technology to enhance its Isuzu platform, creating a highly efficient and competitive product. In 2007, Aoling achieved monthly sales of over 3,000 units, reaching record highs. After launching its State III products, it outperformed competitors, securing a dominant position in the high-end segment. Now, Aoling is not only leading in economy trucks but also challenging the market in high-end models, marking the beginning of a new “Light Truck Dynasty” in China. Looking ahead, Foton Motor plans to export Aoling light trucks to Japan. While dominating the domestic market, the company continues to expand globally. Its products are now exported to 48 countries, with over 30,000 units shipped in 2007. Foton has established CKD factories in Pakistan, Ukraine, and Vietnam, with ongoing negotiations in several other countries. In 2008, the joint venture between Foton Motor and Cummins Inc. was officially launched. Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. produces 2.8L and 3.8L light diesel engines meeting Euro IV and V emission standards. This partnership strengthens Foton’s position in global markets, especially in developed countries. Soon, Aoling light trucks will be equipped with Cummins engines, offering higher power, greater torque, and lower maintenance costs. Experts believe this will make Aoling more competitive domestically and internationally, enabling it to enter the Japanese, South Korean, and European markets. Foton Motor, now fully prepared, is moving toward its global vision. With a brand value of 22.157 billion yuan, the company is well-positioned to lead the next phase of growth.
