The department has a long history of service in the community, and despite modernization efforts, it still retains some of its classic equipment, showing a blend of tradition and progress. As they continue to upgrade their fleet, they remain committed to providing reliable emergency services to residents in Lake County.
The Antioch Fire Department and First Fire District is a volunteer fire department located on the northern edge of Illinois, within Lake County's Quad 2. The department operates from three stations and maintains a fleet of firefighting apparatus. A new engine is expected to arrive in January, which will mark a shift as the department transitions away from its former all-Pirsch configuration. Currently, two Pirsch units remain on the roster, with one of them scheduled for auction once the new engine is delivered.
Each station is equipped with a brush unit, an engine, or a tanker with a minimum water capacity of 2,000 gallons. The current apparatus includes a US Tanker, an Alexis pumper, a Pierce pumper, and a 3D pumper. Station 1 houses the Quad 2 rehab unit, the Quad 2 air boat, and a newly introduced resource called the Fast Attack Response Truck, designed for rapid deployment in emergency situations.
