The Glen Ellyn Fire Company stands out as the second department in Division 12 to be featured. This volunteer fire department is led by a paid chief and operates with contract medics who staff one ambulance at each station. Known for their unique approach, Glen Ellyn often acquires apparatus that are not typical for the region. One of their distinctive practices is ordering engines in pairs, ensuring identical units are stationed in both locations. They have two sets of such engines: the first pair, purchased in 1983, were built by 3D on Spartan Silent Knight chassis, while the second pair, acquired in 1993, feature Spartan Gladiator chassis with Saulsbury bodies. Each of their stations is equipped with a ladder truck and several squad units. For many years, they have had a Snorkel in service. Currently, the downtown station houses a 2000 Spartan Gladiator/Marion 75-foot Snorkel, and the Taft Avenue station is home to a 102-foot Grumman AerialCat. Outside their headquarters, the department proudly displays a beautiful bronze statue. The statue was donated by an individual in honor of the Glen Ellyn Fire Company’s 100th anniversary in 2007. It stands at Station 1 and serves as a tribute to the dedication and service of the firefighters. The statue was photographed by Larry Shairo, capturing its grandeur and significance to the community.
