The Glen Ellyn Fire Company stands out as one of only two departments in Division 12. This volunteer fire department operates with a paid chief and contract medics, who staff one ambulance at each station. Known for their unique approach, Glen Ellyn often acquires apparatus that differ from the typical models found in the region. A distinctive feature of their fleet is the purchase of engines in pairs, allowing them to maintain identical units in both stations. They have acquired two such pairs: one in 1983 built by 3D on a Spartan Silent Knight chassis, and another in 1993 featuring Spartan Gladiator chassis with Saulsbury bodies. Each station is equipped with a truck, along with various squad units. For many years, the department has had a Snorkel unit in service. Currently, they operate a 2000 Spartan Gladiator/Marion 75-foot Snorkel at the downtown station and a 102-foot Grumman AerialCat at the Taft Avenue station. Outside their headquarters, the department proudly displays a beautiful bronze statue, which was donated by an individual in recognition of the Glen Ellyn Fire Company’s 100th anniversary in 2007. The statue, located at Station 1, serves as a lasting tribute to the dedication and service of the firefighters. It was captured in a photograph by Larry Shairo, highlighting the significance of this special piece of art.
