The Fox Lake Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment building located on the 500 block of Autumn Boulevard in Lakemoor around 11 PM last night. Arriving just four minutes after the initial call, firefighters found flames already visible through the roof of the three-story, lightweight construction building. Shortly after, a structural collapse occurred, escalating the situation into a major incident.
This was classified as a 3-11 for tankers and a Box Alarm due to the structural collapse, with at least 19 fire departments mobilized to the scene. Four tower ladders—Fox Lake, McHenry Township, Wauconda, and Round Lake—were deployed, along with multiple handlines and ground-level master streams to manage the blaze.
Several notable apparatus were seen on the scene. Countryside and Grayslake both sent their brand-new units, while several engines and squads were equipped with Nightscan or Command Light towers, including units from Antioch, Grayslake, and Round Lake, as well as Fox Lake and Barrington squads. At one point during the fire, the Fox Lake Tower Ladder (Spartan/3D/Nova Quintech) extended its articulating jib over the building, showcasing advanced firefighting capabilities.
McHenry Township had four units on site: engine, tower, tanker, and squad. Round Lake sent three units—engine, tower, and tanker—while Lake Villa had an engine, tanker, and ambulance. Grayslake provided an engine and tanker, and Lake Bluff made the longest trip, sending an engine to support the effort.
Photos from the scene show Antioch’s American LaFrance/Alexis engine with a Nightscan lighting up the area, as well as a Fox Lake squad equipped with two light towers. Countryside’s new US Tanker was also on duty, and Round Lake’s engine used a Command Light to illuminate portable tanks.
Of the 19 departments involved, ChicagoAreaFire.com has listed the following: Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Long Grove, McHenry Township, Mundelein, Newport Township, and Wauconda. However, the following are not yet on the site: Antioch, Barrington, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Nunda Rural, and Round Lake.
