Recently, I responded to a call at a building that didn’t look too bad in terms of fire damage, but there were a few interesting things going on. The structure was in really poor condition—several sections of the roof had already collapsed before the fire, and access was extremely limited. It’s ironic that it wasn’t classified as a red X building. I managed to capture some video and photos of a Chicago stripping ladder being used as a battering ram to remove the plywood window coverings. That’s a unique tool, mainly used in Chicago for pulling up roofing materials during ventilation, rather than for climbing. It’s pretty cool to see in action. Also, Class A foam was used at this incident. The crew had a spare snorkel, and there were some good rig shots available.
