From Steve Redick:

Time to take a trip down memory lane with the Wayback Machine. I came across this rare shot that I think was taken by Chuck Madderom. It's a unique image of the famous Snorkel Squad 3 in action with their iconic Snorkel. I don’t have any details on the location or date, but I absolutely love this photo. This is the same original Snorkel that was restored by ALF back in the 90s. As many of you know, my dad was the captain of that company, and I had the chance to ride on one of the foam pressure units a few times when I lived on Erie Street. That house is gone now, which makes it all the more nostalgic.

Here’s another classic fire fan photo. It’s from around the mid-70s, probably at 59th & Lafayette or maybe Lasalle or Perry — not sure anymore. The fire was venting out the side, and a truckman was holding the door shut after forcing it open while the engine pulled out. My dad is visible in the white helmet on the right side of the picture. I rode in the 12th battalion buggy to this call. That was typical for those days in the old 12th battalion.

I don’t remember the exact date for this next one, but I took it on my way home from a bar, probably around 3 AM in the late 80s. It was a well-known restaurant, if I recall correctly. Does anyone have more info about it?

Let’s look at one more. In March 1987, Detroit lost three firefighters in a major warehouse fire. The next day, a cartoon appeared in the paper that really struck a chord with me. I even bought a lithograph of it from the newspaper. It’s always been a touching image for me.
