How Can the Asset Management Extension Transform Your Elios 3 Workflows?

If you're familiar with drone data collection, you likely know that traditional drone operators gather data flight by flight, where each flight represents a separate dataset. However, this approach doesn't align with how asset managers view data. Asset managers are more concerned with the overall health of an asset, evaluating its condition based on the latest inspection. This is where the new Asset Management software extension for Cockpit and Inspector (Elios 3's piloting app and processing software) steps in to bridge the gap between drone-based data collection and proper asset management. In this article, we'll explore the improvements this extension brings to your workflows and why it will fundamentally change how you handle your data.

Presenting Data Clearly to Asset Managers

Asset managers rely on inspection data to assess how their assets are aging and plan for proactive maintenance or repairs. Inspectors and inspection companies play a crucial role in providing asset managers with a holistic view of their assets. Currently, this involves organizing data by inspection date and presenting it as a digital twin of the asset. This digital twin ensures that the data is easily accessible, navigable, and helps asset managers pinpoint specific areas of interest in relation to the overall asset and broader site operations.

However, the benefits of this kind of data organization extend beyond just asset managers. Repair teams or personnel tasked with investigating defects find immense value in being able to view a digital twin of an asset along with all relevant information in one place. This streamlines planning for access, ordering parts, and estimating labor and costs.

In today's digital age, digital twins and asset management tools are becoming the norm across industries. Therefore, the tools used by inspectors need to adapt to this way of thinking about asset data. Traditionally, drones segment data into individual flights, and the same was true for the Elios 3 until now. With the introduction of the Asset Management extension for Cockpit and Inspector, we're shifting the paradigm to organize Elios 3 data in a manner that aligns better with modern asset managers' expectations.

How Does the Asset Management Software Extension Work?

This new software extension integrates seamlessly into the entire inspection process, from takeoff to post-processing. The most efficient way to ensure data is properly organized is to categorize it during data collection. With the Asset Management extension enabled, Elios 3 pilots can create a new asset, initiate a new inspection within an existing asset, or continue an ongoing inspection before each flight.

The Asset Management extension lets pilots view layers of data from previous flights.

Beyond simple categorization, the data must be spatially organized within a unified framework across flights to provide a clear view of a single digital twin. To achieve this, the Asset Management extension introduces a novel concept to the Elios 3 data collection workflow called relocalization. When conducting additional flights in an asset where you've flown before, you'll begin your inspection with a historical map of the asset derived from all prior inspections. Before starting the flight, the drone performs the relocalization process, aligning its current position with the historical map. As a result, all data captured during the flight is automatically and precisely localized within the historical map of the asset.

Using this method, pilots complete their inspections with data already organized per asset, making analysis and management much easier.

Other Advantages of Using the Asset Management Extension

One of the most frustrating experiences during an inspection is returning to the office only to discover that part of the data is missing. Besides the benefits mentioned earlier, the Asset Management extension improves the pilot's experience by consistently displaying previously created maps and points of interest (POIs) across flights during an inspection. This allows pilots to accurately track the completeness of their work and ensure they leave the site with a full dataset.

In the future, the Asset Management extension will enable users to selectively load previous POIs along with the historical map, allowing pilots to revisit areas of concern and conduct repeat inspections as needed.

The Asset Management extension allows pilots to see POIs from previous flights.

How Can You Leverage Asset Management with Flyability?

To enjoy the enhanced features of Asset Management, you'll need an Elios 3 Premium Software Subscription. This subscription is included for three years with every Elios 3 Premium and Enterprise drone package and can also be purchased separately for one year at any time. Additionally, a free trial lasting 30 days can be initiated once for every Elios 3 that doesn't already have a Premium Software Subscription. If you'd like to learn more about the Asset Management extension or see it in action, visit the Asset Management webpage or contact us.

As industries evolve, embracing tools that align with modern asset management practices becomes essential. The Asset Management extension for Elios 3 is a game-changer, offering a more intuitive and efficient way to collect and manage drone data. Whether you're an asset manager, inspector, or maintenance professional, this extension will redefine how you approach data-driven decision-making.
