Scott Peterson was present at the 4th Alarm fire in Newport Township on Monday in Wadsworth, capturing several compelling images that will be featured in multiple posts.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2013, the Newport Fire Protection District received reports of a fire at 14541 Juniper Court. Upon their arrival, firefighters were confronted with an intense blaze consuming both the roof and the interior of the house. The Zion ladder truck swiftly arrived on the scene and was immediately set up for water tower operations. Initially, only one portable tank was available, with much of the water being directed to the Zion truck. The fire's severity prompted an immediate upgrade from a second alarm to a fourth alarm status. This brought additional engines and tenders from MABAS Division 4 as well as MABAS Division 101 in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. It seems that Twin Lakes Fire Department was the farthest unit to respond. Ultimately, three portable tanks were connected in series, creating a highly efficient continuous water supply system without any interruptions. Given the severe fire conditions upon arrival, the crews performed admirably in controlling the flames. One striking photograph captures the complete structural failure of a significant portion of the second floor through the C division window above the back deck.
More photos of the fire, including images of the apparatus and broader scene shots, will be shared soon.
Attached is a picture of the Zion ladder truck equipped with a master stream, providing an impressive view of the operation. Another image highlights the fire's devastating impact on the second floor. From the driveway on the D side, you can see the extent of the damage. On the C side, there is clear evidence of floor collapse. The D side shows further destruction, while the CD corner reveals additional structural issues. The Bristol crew can be seen actively working in the C sector, demonstrating their dedication and skill. Another shot from the AB corner offers a different perspective of the fire's impact. Lastly, a photo captures the ladder pipe operations in action, showcasing the coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams.
These images provide a comprehensive look at the fire and the tireless work of the firefighters who responded to this emergency.
