Here's a message from Eric Haak: The Chicago Heights Fire Department responded to a MABAS Box call on Saturday morning (February 6th) for a fire at a Walmart under construction located at 21000 S. Western Avenue. From what I could observe, it appeared to be a fire involving construction materials inside the building, and it didn’t seem to affect the structure itself. There were two aerial ladders deployed and ready, but no water was applied to the roof. I wasn’t allowed to get any closer than the construction fence, so all the photos here were taken from a distance. Still, I managed to capture a few shots of the responding units. The fact that they had two aerials ready shows they were prepared for the worst, even if the situation turned out to be less severe. It also highlights the importance of safety protocols during construction site emergencies. I’m glad I got to capture some of the action, even from a distance. If you’re interested in more updates or additional photos, feel free to check back later this week.
