This is from Eric Haak: On Saturday morning, February 6th, the Chicago Heights Fire Department responded to a MABAS Box for a fire at a Walmart under construction on South Western Avenue, 21000 S. Western Avenue. From what I could see, it looked like the fire was caused by construction materials inside the building and didn’t involve the actual structure. There were two aerial ladders on scene and fully deployed, but no water was applied to the roof. I wasn’t allowed to get any closer than the construction fence, so all the photos here were taken from a distance. Still, I managed to capture a few shots of the apparatus responding. The fact that they had a MABAS Box activated shows the level of coordination between agencies. I also noticed that the crews were very professional and kept a safe distance while working. Even though I couldn’t get too close, the photos still give a good sense of the scene. It’s always great to be able to document these events and share them with others who are interested in emergency services and firefighting operations.
