I just received this report from Larry Shapiro regarding a fire incident that occurred last Monday (10/31/16) at the Springhill Suites hotel located at 300 Marriott Drive. It all started around 10:30 PM when the hotel was evacuated due to a fire alarm triggered by reports of smoke and flames in the pool area. Initially classified as a Code 3, the situation quickly escalated to a Code 4 as the firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke engulfing the room with the swimming pool.
The firefighters faced quite a challenge due to the thick smoke, which delayed their ability to locate the source of the fire and extinguish it effectively. Once the flames were under control, they proceeded to search each floor, vent any trapped smoke, and check the air quality before allowing the guests to return to their rooms.
This emergency response involved not only the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department's Engine 52, Engine 53, Truck 51, Ambulance 51 and 52, and Battalion 51 but also mutual aid and auto-aid teams from neighboring areas including Buffalo Grove Engine 27, Long Grove Squad 55, Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19, Lake Forest Truck 421, Wheeling Truck 24, Buffalo Grove Battalion 4, Deerfield 20, and Lake Zurich Ambulance 4.
Attached are some photos captured by Larry Shapiro showing the firefighters in action, the aftermath of the fire, and the displaced hotel guests who were left huddled together wrapped in blankets against the chilly night air. There’s also an image of Lincolnshire-Riverwoods FPD Truck 51 Pierce Arrow XT at the scene and another one highlighting the damage to the ceiling caused by the fire.
