Disadvantages of box guideway machining centers:
1. Shorter service life. Under the same maintenance and usage conditions, the service life of box guideways is generally shorter than linear guide machining center, because box guideways operate with sliding friction, while linear guide operate with rolling friction, resulting in greater wear and tear.
2. The repair cost is too high. The maintenance of box guideway machining center is much more difficult and costly than linear guideway machining center. If there is insufficient scraping allowance, it may involve disassembling all the large parts of the machine tool, performing quenching and mechanical processing again, and even more importantly, recasting the large parts. On Thursday evening, just before 7 PM on April 2, 2020, firefighters and police from Wheeling and Prospect Heights were called to the Chicago Executive Airport after reports of a plane crash. According to the airport tower, a small aircraft with one person on board had landed in a drainage ditch adjacent to the runway, coming to rest in about two feet of water.
Wheeling Battalion 24 arrived first and found the pilot inside the plane, who was reported to be in good condition with no immediate hazards. The pilot managed to exit the aircraft on their own and signed a medical release form at the location.
A single fire company remained on site until a wrecker arrived to tow the plane—a Cessna Skyhawk—out of the ditch. Several emergency vehicles, including a Freightliner ambulance and a Rosenbauer America IHC/Timberwolf, were also seen on or near the runway during the response. Local photographers captured the scene, showing the aftermath of the incident and the efforts of first responders. The pilot was unharmed, and the situation was resolved without further complications.
