Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from every part of the home. Stephen Wilcox photo Stephen Wilcox recently shared a detailed account of another fire in western Dupage County (MABAS Division 12), which took place last month. Here's what he reported: Wheaton Fire: 419 N. Ellis on June 17, 2011 at 04:47 AM. The two-story house, built around 1900, was a balloon frame with lath and plaster walls and knob-and-tube wiring. Conditions were warm and humid when crews arrived. The fire had spread across all floors and into the attic. Neighbors believed someone might still be inside, prompting an extra alarm. Multiple handlines and six ground ladders were deployed. Notably, the family had just returned from a trip to the Far East.  A firefighter ventilates windows on the side of the house while other units make entry.
