Simultaneous Demolition of 20 Upper Bridges of Changyi Expressway
Recently, the 20-span overpass of Shanghai-Nanjing-Kunming Expressway in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province (referred to as Changyi Expressway) was demolished within 33 hours. The blasting time of the seven overpasses was not more than 30 seconds apart, and the remaining 13 bridges were synchronized. The demolition of machinery was carried out, and the two-way four-lane traffic was restored across the board, which was 3 hours ahead of the expected opening time.
Distributing 20 over-span flyovers on a busy highway with an average daily traffic volume of up to 40,000 peaks is a major problem for traffic diversion control. The Jiangxi Provincial Department of Transportation and the Public Security Department of Jiangxi Province issued a joint notice in advance to provide specific bypass routes for different directions and announced the setting of traffic diversion control points. Jiangxi Expressway Group has developed a detour route map. On the day of the demolition, “Jiangxi Expressway” WeChat and Weibo use a countdown method to update the road condition every hour to remind the vehicle to detour.
