On September 19, 2012, around 11 p.m., the Robbins Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire at a vacant house located on 137th Street and Monticello. Along with the initial response from Robbins, units from Garden Homes, Markham, Blue Island, and Dixmoor fire departments also arrived with engine companies. When Robbins Engine 2913 and Tower 2914 reached the scene, they found smoke coming from the rear of a two-story, vacant building that was in the process of being renovated. The main fire was located on the first floor, with flames extending to the second floor.
The incident commander requested a Full Still off Box #2909, which brought in Midlothian FD with a squad unit and Palos Heights FPD with an ambulance. The fire was brought under control approximately 1.5 hours after the initial call. It was later confirmed that the correct address was 3617 S. Monticello Avenue.
